The Information Superhighway. The World Wide Web. The Internet. No matter what you call it, the 21st century has a new encyclopedia.

Researching for information can now be done anytime, anywhere, and by most anyone. All you need is a computer and access to the Internet. Using one of the many “search engines,” just type in a few keywords, and, presto, pages and pages of related, and sometimes unrelated, material magically appear.

In an effort to better inform the general public, the media, and anyone else seeking information on rendering, the products it produces, and the benefits of its service, many industry Web sites have posted valuable information on a wide range of topics.

The Fats and Proteins Research Foundation Web site, www.fprf.org, allows visitors to search its database of research projects and Director’s Digests by simply typing in a few words. Visitors can also skim through select Technical Services Bulletins and president’s reports for information.

A large selection of articles, essays, and studies on topics relevant to the industry are available on the Animal Protein Producers Industry Web site at www.animalprotein.org. The National Renderers Association site, www.renderers.org, is host to material that addresses animal nutrition, environment, product statistics, and association news.

Render magazine also has a search function that provides a list of articles previously published that pertain to the search word. Results are not just limited to Render’s Web site either, providing a larger selection of information being sought. Click on a link, and the user is transported to the result with very little effort.

So use these 21st century encyclopedias to become better informed or better inform others on the world of rendering.
