NRA Receives Overseas Promotion Funds

In mid-June, the U.S. Department of Agriculture allocated more than $141 million to 70 U.S. trade organizations to promote U.S. agricultural products overseas in fiscal year (FY) 2005. The amount was $20 million less than the previous fiscal year. The funds will be administered under the Foreign Agricultural Service’s Market Access Program (MAP) and Quality Samples Program (QSP). Additional allocations under the Foreign Market Development program had not yet been announced as of mid-July.

The National Renderers Association (NRA) received a MAP allocation of $395,099, which is used to help share the costs of overseas marketing and promotional activities, which includes such activities as market research, consumer promotions for products, and seminars to educate overseas customers.

NRA’s QSP allocation for FY05 is $45,000 and will be used to help create export sales by promoting awareness of U.S. rendered products among new foreign buyers. The QSP program provides samples of agricultural commodities in workshops to help train foreign importers on the unique benefits of U.S. agricultural products.
