Anamax Breaks Ground on Biodiesel Plant

Groundbreaking was held December 5, 2005, for what will be Wisconsin’s largest multi-feedstock biodiesel plant. The 15,000-square-foot facility, located in the DeForest, WI, industrial park, will be owned and operated by Anamax Energy Services, Inc., a member of the Sanimax group of companies, which is headquartered in Montreal, QB, Canada. The plant will employ up to 15 people and produce 20 million gallons of biodiesel annually.

Wisconsin 8th District Congressman Mark Green, who attended the groundbreaking, hailed the new project.

“As our nation continues struggling with high energy prices, finding cleaner, renewable, and, most importantly, cheaper forms of energy has become even more critical to our economy and national security,” Green said. “Biodiesels represent a promising new alternative to traditional fuel sources, and I know this plant will help Wisconsin emerge as a leader in biodiesel production.”

The new facility will be located adjacent to an operation run by an affiliated company, Anamax Grease Services, Inc. Anamax Grease Services collects and recycles restaurant, industrial, and trap greases, which can be used as raw materials in the biodiesel process. In addition to biodiesel, the new plant will also produce glycerin as a by-product.

One of the unique features of the plant is that it will utilize multiple feedstock sources.

“Most biodiesel plants are very feedstock sensitive,” explained Michael Langenhorst, president and chief executive officer of Sanimax. “By being able to utilize multiple feed stocks, the raw material availability is significant. We will be able to utilize products produced by our company as well as vegetable oils.”

The biodiesel and glycerin will be sold on a wholesale level.
