Bioterrorism Guides Available

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released two new guides to assist the industry and stakeholders to understand and comply with the Bioterrorism Act Administrative Detention and Recordkeeping Rules:

• What You Need to Know About Establishment and Maintenance of Records

• What You Need to Know About Administrative Detention of Foods

These guides can be found on the FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition Web site at www.cfsan.fda.gov/~acrobat/fsbtrec.pdf and www.cfsan.fda.gov/~acrobat/fsbtad.pdf.

The National Renderers Association (NRA) has released a fact sheet on the recordkeeping rules as they apply to renderers and protein blenders. It states that plants must keep records to identify the specific source, whether foreign or domestic, of all raw materials brought into the plant, recipients of all food or feed products released from the plant, and transporters of the raw materials and finished products. The records must be maintained for at least one year. Contact the NRA at (703) 683-0155 for a copy of the fact sheet.
