Stephen Woodgate, chief executive of the Foodchain and Biomass Renewables Association, is one of the first recipients of an honorary fellowship from Harper Adams since the institution gained its full university title. His involvement with the university has included advising on research projects, helping to direct PhD projects, assisting Harper Adams staff in making applications for further research funding, and lecturing on the meat industry to undergraduate and postgraduate food students.
Woodgate is a leading authority on the effective processing of meat industry by-products, with a specific interest in ensuring food chain biosecurity and minimizing carbon emissions in the meat production process. He is a member of the executive board of the European Fat Processors and Renderers Association (EFPRA) and first vice president of the World Renderers Organization. Woodgate is also managing director of Beacon Research and a former technical director of both Prosper de Mulder, Ltd. and EFPRA.
