EU Export Requirements for Rendered Products Revised
November 18, 2003 - Based upon recent clarifications/notifications issued by the European Union (EU), the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service’s National Center for Import and Export has revised most of the pre-inspection packages and created some new ones that renderers and others will need to follow in order to export certain animal products and by-products to the EU under Regulation No. 1774/2002, the European Communities’ animal by-products regulation, due to go into effect December 31, 2003.

• U.S. Rendering Facility Pre-Inspection Package: Major change is the addition of impurity testing requirements for rendered fats.
• U.S. Rendering Facility Pre-Inspection Package for Facilities to Produce Category 2 Rendered Fats for Oleochemical Production: New package.
• U.S. Pet Food Manufacturer Pre-Inspection Package: No major changes.
• U.S. Spray Dry Facility Pre-Inspection Package (Unavailable at this time. Awaiting updated copy from APHIS. Please contact your local APHIS office): New self-inspection plan and treatment requirements.
• U.S. Digest Facility Pre-Inspection Package: New self-inspection plan requirements.
• U.S. Blender Pre-Inspection Package: New clarification of purpose of checklist.
• U.S. Suppliers of Unprocessed Animal By-Products for Pet Food Production: New package.
