New EU Preinspection Packages Released
March 10, 2005 - European Commission Regulation No. 1774/2002, published October 3, 2002, established the requirements to import animal by-products not intended for human consumption into the European Union (EU). The EU derogation permitting Category 1 and 2 materials in processing facilities where Category 3 materials are processed expires October 31, 2005. This will affect the following facilities: processed animal protein; gel bone producers; blood products for use as feed; rendered fats; hydrolyzed protein; dicalcium and tricalcium phosphate; and inedible egg products. Facilities will no longer be able to source ingredients from unapproved suppliers, and all unapproved ingredients will have to be removed from the facility.
New preinspection packets for rendering facilities and gel bone facilities were recently released that have been amended for this change and are available in pdf format by clicking on the appropriate facility above.
